Child Care Delopment Center Panorama
Above is my second attempt at making a 360 degree spherical panorama while on assignment. Due to logistical constraints I wasn’t able to bring my tripod and Nodal Ninja panoramic head. So I decide to do it handheld.
In order to do this I had to build myself a philopod. A piece of String, a pen and a rubber band attached to my Sigma 8mm circular fisheye lens was all I used. Funny how things that add up to less than 50 cent was used to make my $1000 plus Nikon camera work how I want it to.
I ended up shooting at three different locations in the room above. Shooting multiple times at each location. This probably only my second or third time trying this and first at an assigment so I figured I’d rather be safe than sorry. And I was glad I did. Only one of the sequences was able to stitch smoothly in PTGui. I also think it would have helped if I remembered to shoot the scenes with pitch variations.
Next time around I think I’ll use a heavier weight at the end of the string, rather than a pen. Maybe I’ll also have more practice with making a handheld 360 panorama.
For all you panoramist out there any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hanford Medical Pavillion’s CT Scanner
This is my first try at a spherical 360 degree panorama. It was taken at the Hanford Medical Pavillion’s new Aquilion 64-slice CT Scanner room. John Harrignton, left, was the first patient to use the CT scanner with the help of Rose Ortega, right, a CT technologist. So click and drag around the image to see a view of the whole room and let me know what you think. Also, check out the Hanford Sentinel to read more.

iPad Photoshoot
iPad Photoshoot from Jesse Rosten on Vimeo.
Photographer Jesse Rosten uses the iPad as a light source and made a behind the scenes video.
“Eventually, it dawned on me that, given the right context, the iPad screen is actually pretty bright. I know that for a fact because I measured it with my light meter (1/60, f1.4 at ISO800 from about 1.5 feet). You know once the light meter has come out of the bag, there’s no going back. Naturally, we needed to do a photoshoot using iPads as the light source.”— Jesse Rosten
Doesn’t seem like its very cost effective but a cool project none the less.
